A Day in the COE Life: Mark Bell, VP of Marketing
By: Pasquale Gatti | June 11th, 2020When asked to take me through an average day he chuckled and replied, “There is no average day.”
The fact of the matter is there is no typical daily cadence for our ambitious Vice President of Marketing, Mark Bell. In fact, that’s just the way he likes it.
“We’re a fast-moving company and as a result we need to stay extremely agile,” he says. “There are many requests coming into the marketing department on a daily basis across all areas of the business, which is how it should be.”
Measuring Success
With his department acting as the face of the company, Mark is constantly working to ensure his team’s outreach stays true to the overall mission of CoEnterprise.
“As a leader in the company, my main responsibility is to prioritize and determine what we need to be focusing on as a marketing team. Whether it be lead generation, brand awareness, or launching our new website—I have to ensure all of those things are aligned with the goals we want to achieve as an organization.”
While a significant part of his job revolves around goal and objective setting, measurement is the next step in the process. This enables him to evaluate success factors and track their progress as a team.
“Everything we do is ultimately tied back to return on investment,” he says. “I’m continuously monitoring and answering questions related to KPIs like ROI, number of leads and opportunities, and how we’re influencing the pipeline. It all ties together.”
Having a Seat at the Table
Being equipped with answers to those questions comes in handy when he shoots the breeze with our CEO Michael Rabinowitz multiple times per day. However, that’s not where his interaction with the executive team ends. In order to gain a 360 degree view of the business and how marketing can help, Mark touches base with each department on a regular basis.
“I’ve always believed that for a marketing team to be successful it’s critical to have a seat at the table with each area of your company, which is why I meet with the leaders of each business unit frequently. From product strategy and customer satisfaction to the integration team, human resources, and finance; I’m always looking to gain perspective and get a feel for their operation and the challenges they are facing.”
Meeting Challenges Head-On
As you can imagine, being a VP of Marketing comes with its own unique set of challenges. However, it’s something he has never shied away from throughout his career.
“The constant challenges are what I enjoy—they’re what make me tick,” he says. “For us as a team, the challenge is to ensure we continuously deliver value to the company in everything we do. We realize we represent CoEnterprise, so we’re constantly making sure our output is tied to not only our objectives as a team but the company ones as well.”
For a guy who has a healthy interest in cars, going from zero to sixty isn’t something that ever bothers him. In fact, it’s what he appreciates the most.
“Being able to work in a fast-paced environment is what I love. The speed is something that really keeps me going since I’ve been accustomed to it for most of my career. I’m always looking at the next challenge within our department—what’s the next big thing?, how can we impact the pipeline, and how can we move the company forward?”
Embracing the Culture
If you’ve read any of our blog posts, it’s no secret that we pride ourselves on having vibrant, collaborative culture. But we don’t make those claims in a vacuum (take it from our employees). It’s something that Mark gets a lot of satisfaction and practical use from over the course of his day-to-day.
“One of the aspects of our culture that I love is the collaboration,” he says. “ I enjoy seeing people from different departments come together to solve customer challenges. From my perspective, I know our team is constantly collaborating with other teams to brainstorm ideas, get feedback, and ultimately help us deliver results.”
It may be a no-brainer, but without people being available, collaboration is almost impossible. It’s that facet of CoEnterprise that he’s extremely proud to be a part of.
“Accessibility is another part of our culture that’s on point. Everyone has the ability to reach out and access anyone in the company they need to because we’re so open and we have the tools to do so. From my perspective, I’m always willing to provide that feedback when someone comes to me with a question or comment—in fact I view it as a responsibility. And it’s not just me, it’s everyone up and down our organization.”
Celebrating the Victories
Mark is quick to point out that favorable outcomes aren’t possible without surrounding himself with the right people.
“Having a high-performing team is really what makes everything possible,” he says. “The fact that we’re all on the same page and highly focused on success allows us to continue to drive change within the organization.”
While the process ultimately gets him and his team to the results, for him, there’s nothing like seeing everything come together and reaching a goal.
“The measurable results at the end of the day is the most satisfying part of the job. Experiencing the big wins and being able to really see the fruits of your labor is something I’ll never get tired of. Even the losses serve as motivation to improve, do better next time, and turn them into wins.”
It’s safe to say he has CoEnterprise well on the way to winning.
